Tell us a bit about yourself.
I have a BA degree in youth and community work with applied theology. I worked as a youth worker for church and parachurch organisations. Over the past 10 years I have focused on youthwork and church leadership in low income communities. I am in my second year at St Mellitus doing an MA. I currently run a project called The Dockyard in Truro, supporting people on low incomes and in temporary accommodation.
What drew you to study at St Mellitus College?
I wanted to connect locally with people doing ministry.
How would you describe the culture at St Mellitus College?
It is inclusive of a range of views, denominations and expressions of faith.
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I wanted to dig deeper into research through a dissertation, exploring barriers and opportunities for discipling people impacted by poverty.
What difference have your studies at St Mellitus College had on your life and faith?
I have been encouraged in my faith as I am surrounded by a worshipping community at college. The formation groups provide a place to discuss challenges and pray with people who are going through the same experience as an ordinand.
What tips or advice would you give a prospective student thinking of studying here?
Spend time getting to know Moodle and read as much as you can on the site. Save key documents for future reference. Ask for help as soon as you feel you are struggling as the team and students are keen to support you. It takes time to get into a new rhythm of learning, keep going.
In three words describe your time at St Mellitus College.
Stretching, encouraging, fruitful.
