What drew you to enrol in Beginning Theology?
I am fortunate to be working for a Christian company, which encouraged me to find a Theology course that would help me grow in my faith. After looking at a few, the Beginning Theology course module page really stood out. It seemed to offer a wide range of topics, giving a good outline of the gospel and how it can affect us daily, as well as topical discussions.
How has the course helped you grow in confidence, whether in your faith, ministry, or personal calling?
It has been great to chat to other Christians my age, and get to discuss our theological standpoints on things. It isn’t always the right setting to have these types of discussions, so I really enjoyed getting the opportunity to develop friendships and grow in my confidence to talk about theological subjects.
In what ways has Beginning Theology shaped your vision or hope for the future?
Since Beginning Theology, I have become more aware of the need of theological awareness, and how it can help and equip you so much in your Christian life. I hope to carry on studying theology in some form and prioritise this intentional time of learning about God, so that I can share my faith with both Christians and non-Christians more knowledgeably and effectively.
What would you say to someone who’s considering Beginning Theology but isn’t quite sure it’s for them?
The good thing about Beginning Theology is that the huge range of topics means there is always so much to learn, and you’re not expected to have any knowledge beforehand. The lectures are designed to be easy to understand, no matter your level of previous understanding. Everyone in my group always has a different opinion, so it is always interesting to see people’s different backgrounds and how they approach the discussion questions. All the team are super friendly, so you’ll quickly feel at home.
Have you noticed any changes in your life or ministry since taking the course?
I would say I’m more open-minded and curious since taking this course. It has been great to make new friends with different spiritual backgrounds, which has helped me reflect on my own thoughts and develop my understanding. After studying theology, I hope that my ministry is deeper, and I am better equipped for evangelism.
How has the course helped you reflect more deeply on your own beliefs and understanding of God?
I have been really touched by how great God is—how magnificent and worthy He is—compared to my smallness. Studying God’s nature in Term Two increased my understanding of Him, which made me increasingly in awe of His love for me. Knowing that this God cares for me and died for me has given me a deeper love for Him and encouraged me to worship and obey Him even more.
