For some of our students, the idea of studying and entering a new environment can be nerve wracking. The Formation Group Tutors, Academic Skills Team and our Disability and Wellness Officer offer support year-round to help students to build academic confidence, and to promote holistic well-being.
Further details concerning specific support can be seen below.
Formation Group Tutors
Formation Group Tutors play a vital role in supporting students at the college; each student on an accredited course or on the Peter or Caleb Stream will be part of a Formation Group and will be allocated a Formation Group Tutor. Formation groups will meet at various points throughout the year and help to provide a sense of belonging and community. Your Formation Group Tutor will be your first point of contact for accessing support.
Disability Support and Accessibility
The Disability Support Officer will work closely with the Centre Administrators and other relevant members of the team to ensure that reasonable adjustments are made to enable those with physical disabilities, medical conditions, or other accessibility needs to engage fully with the life of the college.
This may include ensuring you have an accessible room at residentials or retreats, reserving a seat or space in lecture rooms or providing academic resources in alternative formats. Sharing what support you would find helpful with your Formation Group Tutor or the Disability Support Officer will enable us to work together to set you up to flourish during your studies at St Mellitus College.
Please email accessibility.support@stmellitus.ac.uk if you have any questions or if you would like further information.
In addition, for students on an accredited pathway, we can support your application for funding from the Disability Support Allowance (DSA). Further information on the DSA can be found here, please click this link. A link to the DSA 24/25 application can be accessed here, please click this link.
Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) Support
If you have been assessed for a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), and have a diagnosis, you are entitled to receive additional support from one of our academic skills tutors. This entitlement includes two appointments per assignment with the academic skills team. One of the academic skills tutors will be in touch as soon as you start your course to make sure all the appropriate reasonable adjustments are put in place. In addition, we can support your application for funding from the Disability Support Allowance (DSA). Please be aware you can begin your application as soon as you have accepted your place to study with us on an accredited course.
Please email academic.skills@stmellitus.ac.uk if you have any questions or if you would like further information.

Academic Skills
Our students arrive with a variety of academic experience; ranging from some who have just left school and others who may have been out of education for decades. The Academic Skills Team offer 1:1 appointments to all undergraduate and postgraduate students on an accredited pathway. The tutors offer a wide range of support including understanding assignment tasks, discussing essay feedback, reviewing assignment drafts, referencing advice, and general essay writing guidance. The Academic Skills Team also run workshops, speak in lectures, and offer lunchtime sessions on specific academic skills.
Please email academic.skills@stmellitus.ac.uk if you have any questions or if you would like further information.
Chaplaincy
Our experienced chaplains provide a wonderful opportunity for students to receive prayer and support. Chaplains are available for 1:1 appointments during college contact days, as well as residentials and teaching weeks.
